What are Jaw Busters Candy? (Formerly Jawbreakers)
Jaw Busters are spherical and orb-like hard candies with multiple and discrete layers of flavors, going all the way to the core. Every layer is a different color.
The Ferrara Candy Company Jaw Busters were originally named “Jawbreakers” and were the original jawbreaker candies. Various other brands have attempted to make jawbreakers like candies.
A few decades ago, Jawbreakers had lost connection with the people. Ferrara Candy Company decided to rebrand the candy and call it Jaw Busters – The Original Jawbreaker
There are different dimensions of the Jawbreakers candy available. The diameter is directly proportional to the number of layers and the thickness of the coating.
The correct way of eating Jawbreakers is by sucking on to it. Find the one that fits your mouth. Bite when the candy becomes smooth, you will end up breaking your tooth as the candy is super hard to chew.
History of Jaw Busters Candy
The original Jawbreakers have been around since 1919. Ferrara Candy Company was the first to introduce the candy to the masses.
Despite the name “Jaw Breaker,” the candy has surprisingly been a popular one for more than a century. As the name suggests, it could literally break your jaw if you attempt to take a bite without sucking on it. The candies are extremely hard and take a very long time to dissolve completely.
Jawbreakers were inspired by the sugar plum candies that were made for elite ladies in 1591. It was used as an after-dinner digestive and usually took several days to be created. Jawbreakers take around 14 days to make and can have up to 100 layers.
What is the Taste and Flavor of Jaw Busters Candy like?
The candy has a sour and tangy taste. The multiple layers are of different flavors. The outer shell is quite delightful and quite hard. There are generally five flavors that you can find in the layers – orange (orange), lime (green), cherry (red), grape (purple), and lemon (yellow).
The candy looks like a smooth ball and is very hard to chew or bite. It is meant to be licked. Sucking onto it for a long time will leave a citrusy feel in your mouth.

The ingredients of Jawbreakers candy are Dextrose, which contains less than 2% of Calcium Stearate, Malic Acid, Corn Syrup, Titanium Dioxide, Carnauba Wax, Natural and Artificial Flavors, and Artificial Colors (Yellow 5 Lake, Yellow 6, Yellow 6 Lake, Blue 1 Lake, Blue 2 Lake, Red 40 Lake).

Jawbreakers are completely gluten-free. They are manufactured in an exclusive unit where there is no cross-contamination scope from ingredients of other products.

The serving size of 3.5 ounces (100 grams) contains 370 calories.
AreJaw Busters vegan?
No animals have been harmed in the process of manufacturing Jawbreakers candies. All the ingredients are either organic or synthetically produced. Hence the candy is vegan. And sugar of course is naturally vegan!
Are Jaw Busters bad for your teeth?
There is citric acid present in the candy. An excessive amount of citric acid can dissolve the enamel of the teeth. Sucking onto the candy for a prolonged period exposes the teeth to dangerously low pH levels. Since Jawbreakers are hard candies, they can chip or break your teeth if you suck on them for too long and then take a bite.
So it is probably a good idea to brush your teeth after you have have one!
