Although Subway seems like much more of a modern fast food place than some of the typical burger places people think of, it has actually been around for more than 50 years. The concept of opening a submarine shop was born in 1965. A 17-year old high school graduate Fred DeLuca opened it with family friend Dr. Peter Buck. It was called Pete’s Super Submarines, and it was located in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He opened the shop as a way to pay for his college education.
Over the years, Subway has gone through a lot of changes. The name Subway was first used in 1968. In 1974 they dipped their toes into the franchising world, and the first franchised Subway was opened in Wallingford, Connecticut. By 1982 there were 300 locations. In 1985 there were 500 locations, including locations in Puerto Rico and overseas. Soon, Subways began opening in Canada, and by 1987 there were 1000 Subway locations. One year later, that total was now up to 2000. By 1990 they were up to 5000 sites.
At this point, it was evident that Subway was famous not just all over North America but throughout the world. When a fast-food restaurant becomes as popular as this, people start asking for different culinary requests, and secret menus are born and discovered. Keep reading for some of the more interesting items you can order at your local Subway restaurant today!

Basically, instead of rolling the meat to fit the sub roll, they lay it flat, including sticking out of the ends of the roll. With this being prepared in this way, every bite, including your first bite, will have some delicious meat in it!
Tuna Melt
A Tuna melt is a classic sandwich. Subway already has a tuna sub, but why not make it a melt? This comes with tuna, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and black olives. Feel free to add more veggies, take some out, or use a different cheese.
Pizza Sub
For some reason, Subway does not have a pizza sub on the menu, even though it is pretty basic and easy for them to make. Maybe this is so people like you looking for the perfect secret menu item can find this delicious sandwich.

This is a toasted sub with cheese, tomatoes, pepperoni, and veggies. It will closely resemble a pizza. You can either order a pizza sub or make one exceptional by ordering a sub with tomato sauce, cheese, pepperoni, and whatever other items you would like on your pizza submarine, and don’t forget to ask them to toast it!

Chicken Pizziaola Sub
Bring your pizza sub to the next level. This sub has chicken breast topped with pepperoni and cheese plus whatever other veggies you love. Start with a Mariana base, and you have the ultimate chicken pizza sub.
Chicken Cordon Bleu Sub
Although this is not on the menu, it is a traditional sandwich that your local subway will have not problem making. It is ham, chicken, and cheese (usually swiss, but you could ask for another cheese if you prefer). If you want it to taste as close as possible to the classic sandwich, you should also ask for it to be toasted.
Chicken Parmesan Sub
There was a time when this was actually on the menu. Still, it has been over a decade since Subway customers knew that this was a readily available sub. First, ask for a chicken Parmesan sub, and they should know how to make it. If they do not tell them, you want chicken topped with marinara sauce and then Parmesan cheese and mozzarella. Next, ask for the whole sub to be toasted to get the sauce warm and the cheese appropriately melted.
Sweet and Sour Chicken
Are you looking for something a little different from your Subway visit? This sub is made with chicken and their combined sauces of sweet onion sauce and red wine vinaigrette. Delicious and unique!
Autumn Roasted Chicken Sub
So how do you feel about fruit on your sandwich? If you are game, try this one. It is roasted chicken, spinach, green peppers, cucumbers, bacon, apple slices, and BBQ sauce.

The Feast
If the carnivore sounds excellent, but you would like just a bit more meat, this sandwich is for you. Order the feast if you would enjoy a sub with 6 slices of salami, 6 slices of pepperoni, 4 slices of turkey, 6 slices of ham, and 4 slices of roast beef. That is the base, and it is incredible. Of course, you can also add any other extras, including veggies and sauces, to make it even more filling and deliciously messy!
The Big Philly Cheesecake
Although there is a steak and cheese on the menu, it is not the same. This sandwich has three scoops of steak and double cheese when you really want to be indulgent in your sandwich. You can, of course, choose to add other items as you see fit, including traditional onions and peppers.

Pro Tip – More Please
