History of Chuckles Jelly Candy
Fred W. Amend invented Chuckles Jelly Candy in 1921. There was only one manufacturing unit present at the time, and it was located in Danville, Illinois. Fred was originally a marshmallow maker and if you look closely at Chuckles they appear to be similar fruity marshmallows in their shape and soft chewy mouthfeel.
The Chuckles Company was acquired by Nabisco in 1970. In 1986, there was a management buyout. Later, Leaf Brands acquired the company.
The Hershey Company purchased the US properties of the Leaf Brands. In 1996, Hershey obtained the Chuckles trademark. Later, in 2002, they sub-licensed the candy to Farley’s and Sathers.
2012 saw a merger between Ferrara Pan and Farley’s & Sathers which created The Ferrara Candy Company.
Presently, the Iconic IP Interests, LLC owns the Chuckles trademark.

Is Chuckles Jelly Candy gluten-free?
Chuckles Jelly candies are kosher and gluten-free. However, the candies are manufactured in a facility where ingredients like milk, peanuts, eggs, soy, coconuts, and almonds are handled. There is always a risk of cross-contamination. If you are allergic to any of these ingredients, we advise you to take an opinion from your doctor.

The product package does not specify whether the candies are vegan or not. Not all sugar is ethically derived from sugarcane. A lot of candy companies are known to process sugar through boneblack.
Boneblack is formed by charring animal bones. We would say that Chuckles could be vegan. If you are strictly vegan, please reach out to the helpline number provided at the back of the package to confirm.
