History of Necco Banana Split Candy
The New England Confectionery Company (Necco) was incorporated in the 1840s in Boston. The original founders were from the Chase and Company. The full-fledged Necco company was a result of a merger of three confectionery companies in 1901 – Chase and Company, Ball and Fobes, and Bird, Wright and Company.
The three founding companies together established a manufacturing unit in Boston, Massachusetts. It was one of the largest confectionery-producing units in the United States at the time. The Necco company was popular for its Necco Wafers.
Necco was dominating the candy manufacturing business in the first half of the 20th century. They supplied their candies to the US soldiers during World War II.
In 1963, Necco was acquired by the United Industrial Syndicate of New York due to financial constraints.
In May 2018, Round Hill Investments LLC purchased the Necco company for USD 17.33 million. Later, Round Hill sold various divisions of Necco to Spangler Candy Company of Ohio. The Banana Split Candy chews were sold off to Mega Candy Company of Pennsylvania.
