Blow Pop was originally called Tropical Charms as they were packed in a single packaging as square-shaped candies. These candies were one of the first wrapped individually in cellophane wrapping.

The popularity of hard-shell candies, earlier iterations of Blow Pop, began in World War II when the U.S. Army included Charms’ candies in soldiers’ rations. The soldiers enjoyed them as a supplemental form of energy during their war efforts. Since World War II, the tradition of including these Charm candies, including Super Blow Pops, has continued. Although the original Blow Pops were much different, the idea of a bubble-gum inside a hard candy shell is what attracted most to try these out.

The patent for “Method for making candy with gum inside” was filed by Thomas T. Tidwell in 1966, and after the patent was issued in 1969, Triple T began marketing the product as the Triple Treat. In 1973, the idea for the candy was sold to Charms, who marketed the product as Blow Pops. They are available in primary flavors like watermelon, cherry, grape, strawberry, and sour apple.
