History of Jolly Rancher
Jolly Rancher is an American candy brand, especially known for its hard candies and flavorful lollipops. The Jolly Rancher Company was founded in 1949 in Golden, Colorado, by Dorothy Hamsen and Bill Hamsen.
Apart from the candies, the company was also into selling ice creams and chocolates. The Ranch Maid Ice Cream stores in Denver used to host Jolly Rancher products. However, since Denver was a cold region, selling ice creams all year round was challenging.
Bill and Dorothy Hamsen focused on selling hard candies instead. In 1996, the Hershey Company acquired Jolly Rancher Company. It owns all of its candies. They retained the name “Jolly Rancher” on the packaging due to its popularity and the name was chosen to let people know they were a fun and friendly company from the West.
In 2002, Hershey’s shifted the manufacturing unit from Colorado to Mexico to save production costs.
What is the Taste and Flavor of Jolly Ranchers like?
The original hard candies have an assortment of flavors, including grape, green apple, watermelon, cherry, and blue raspberry. The candies are oval and are bite-sized and you should not bit them because they are hard. They are meant to be sucked on, so they flavor dissolves in your mouth over time.
The candies have a mix of sweet and sour tastes and will leave you with a very enjoyable tangy aftertaste in your mouth. If you consume multiple hard candies, you will get a colorful tongue from the food dye present in them. And kids love to do this and then stick out their tongues at each other and also at adults!
