In 1986 in the city of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, two brothers started making candy from Tamarind pulp, called Rico Pelo Loco. This candy soon became a huge sensation, which led to the brothers establishing their own candy manufacturing company, Alitec.

After a year, the brothers redid the brand image of the company and gave birth to Alimentos Matre S.A. de C.V., which is a Mexican candy manufacturing company. With the establishment of this company, the Lucas brand came to light. It got its name from their most popular candy, Lucas Acidito, a lemon-flavored spicy powder that was responsible for a huge boost in their growth.
