What is Nik-L-Nip Candy?
Nik-L-Nip is a fruity candy that comes in the shape of a wax bottle. The insides are filled with fruit-flavored liquid that you can drink. And you can even chew the outer waxy layer, but it’s not meant to be swallowed.
The candy is sold in a pack of multiple fruit flavors. Each bottle is approximately two inches in height.
Nik-L-Nip candies are popular during summertime and Easter. You also get to see them on shelves during Halloween, and it is a perfect snack for picnics and birthday parties.
History of Nik-L-Nip Candy
Nik-L-Nip is a confectionary brand made by Tootsie Roll Industries. The candy was first introduced somewhere between the 1940s and 1950s as a juice-based snack. The exact dates of inception are unknown.
Nik-L-Nips are also known as wax bottles because of their shape and the candy’s outer layer’s nature.
Not much is known about the candy history, and the brand does not indulge in serious advertisements. The candy has enjoyed a loyal fanbase over the decades because of its sweet taste and unique shape. It is definitely a “retro” candy that has a bit of nostalgia behind it.
What is the Taste and Flavor of Nik-L-Nips like?
A pack of four Nik-L-Nips includes lemon, orange, lime, and cherry flavors. You get to see other colors like blue and green in larger packs, but those have citric flavors too. You need to nip the opening and suck the sugary and fruity syrup inside. You can even bite into the bottle and chew the wax layer like a piece of chewing gum.
The wax in the Nik-L-Nip candy bottle is non-toxic and food grade. You can safely chew it, but you should not swallow it. The wax also has a sweet taste, not as strong as the flavorful syrup inside.
