What is Bit O Honey?
Bit O Honey is one of the most classic American candies and it is a very nostalgic brand that represents candy from an earlier era in American history. Its basically a honey taffy so it is harder to chew and has flavors of honey with a nutty taste that comes from the almonds inside the honey taffy.
This candy was introduced in the early 1920’s so it has been around about 100 years, making it one of the oldest candies in mass production in the United State.
History of Bit O Honey
Bit O Honey came into existence for the first time in 1924. It was curated in Chicago, Illinois, by the Schutter-Johnson Company. It consisted of a candy bar with six individual pieces inside. They were not wrapped so once you opened the bar it was easy to share with your friends.

The packaging has changed over the years and now the majority of its sales come from bite size pieces that come with twist wraps on both sides and that makes it very easy for young children and also the elderly to easily open a single piece by themselves.
Schutter-Johnson Company merged with Ward Candy Company in 1966. The Ward Candy Company came up with a chocolate version of the original candy in the mid-1970s called Bit-O-Chocolate. The chocolate version was shortly discontinued, only to be reintroduced in 2017.
