History of Bridge Mix
Emil J. Brach, a German immigrant, chose to open a shop selling artisanal caramels in Chicago, the candy center of the world, in 1904. With time, this shop gained worldwide fame, and it is now regarded as one of the world’s top confections producing companies.
The origin of the bridge mix can be traced to 1950, when a former Hershey Foods worker dumped candy from six conveyor belts onto a footbridge.
To repair equipment, the confectionery factory included a movable bridge. You could tilt the bridge to a certain degree to remove the fallen sweets, and the sweets were then placed in large containers throughout the site.
This Bridge Mix was made available to all plant workers. Soon after, the new management gave this confection a name, and production began in earnest.
