Heart Attack Grill is one of America’s most unhealthy fast food restaurants. Located in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Heart Attack Grill menu offers hamburgers of all sizes, ranging from single to double, triple, and quadruple in calories and fat. The Octuple Bypass hamburger is one of their best-selling items. It has around 8 to 24 ounces of beef!
The restaurant’s name sounds unique, but when you look at the serving size, you’ll immediately understand why it’s called the Heart Attack Grill. Apart from the double-digit ounces of beef for hamburgers, they also serve fries cooked in lard, butterfat milkshakes, soft drinks made with cane sugar, and beer and tequila.
The restaurant has a hospital theme, with waitresses as nurses and waiters as doctors. They call their orders “prescriptions.” They also have hospital gowns and wristbands for customers or patients to wear.

How Did Heart Attack Grill Become Famous?
In 2005, Jon Basso founded Heart Attack Grill in Tempe, Arizona, hoping to create sensational food for customers. His vision was to offer food so bad for your health that it’s shocking! He successfully created something unexpected in the world of fast food restaurants—a place that serves the unhealthiest kind of hamburgers!
The idea for an unhealthy restaurant originated while interviewing clients of fitness training studios about their cheat meals. It inspired him to open a location in Arizona, which couldn’t last more than six years. A Dallas, Texas location opened in May 2011 but was closed within a few months. The Las Vegas location has been serving unhealthy meals since October 2011.

The Craziest Items on the Heart Attack Grill Menu!
Let’s take a closer look at the fattiest, saltiest, and sweetest items on the Heart Attack Grill menu.
Bypass Burger (8 Sizes!)
Single, Double, Triple, Quadruple, Quintuple, Sextuple, Septuple, and Octuple—there are 8 varieties of Bypass Burgers that can give you a heart attack (literally!).
When a diner weighing at least 350lbs enters the restaurant, they can have as many Single Bypass Burgers as they want—each burger is served with a drink. The most attractive of these varieties is the Quadruple Bypass Burger because of the challenge and punishment.
The Quadruple Bypass Burger has 4 beef patties of half pounds each, 20 slices of bacon (add-on), 8 slices of cheese, 8 tomato slices, 20 slices of caramelized onion baked in lard, a tablespoon of mustard and mayo, and finally, two tablespoons of ketchup. And that’s just the burger! The meal also has a side of fries cooked in pure lard and a butterfat milkshake.
The Quadruple Bypass Burger challenge is to finish this meal of 12,410 calories! A nurse (waitress) pushes them out to their car in a wheelchair if they finish their meal. When diners cannot finish their calorific burgers, they are spanked by a nurse with a wooden paddle in front of everyone. The spanking is no joke—the Heart Attack Grill nurses are known to dish out some brutal punishment.
As for the calorie count for these Bypass Burgers, the Quadruple Bypass Burger packs 9,982 calories, and the Octuple Bypass Burger is bursting with 19,900 calories. The most shocking fact is that there are diners who’ve finished these monstrous meals in record time!
Coronary Dog
It’s a half-pound chili coronary dog that seems like a not-so-unhealthy item on the Heart Attack Grill menu, but it’s just as fatty as the other items. The Coronary Dog comes with an option to add 5 bacon slices, which only adds more calories to the meal. Then, there are Flatliner Fries deep fried in pure lard and served with Chili & Cheese, and Onion Rings battered in beer and deep fried in—you guessed it—pure lard!
Flatliner Fries and Onion Rings
Well, there are two items on the menu with different names, but we can sum them up in two words—pure lard!
French fries served at Heart Attack Grill are indeed capable of flatlining the diners. Much like the fries, the onion rings are dunked in pure lard before serving them as a side with their famous hamburgers. These are harmless vegetables before they enter the Heart Attack Grill kitchen!
Butterfat Milkshake
Butterfat milkshake is the sinister version of what we all know as sweet and delightful milkshakes. It’s a calorie-packed dessert with a pat or two of butter. If a person can finish a Quadruple Bypass Burger with a side of Chili Cheese Flatliner Fries and this milkshake, they can win the Heart Attack Grill challenge. Not sure whether they’ve actually won after eating 10-days’ worth of calories in one sitting!
IV Drip Wine
We have to applaud the creativity of this restaurant! Wine in an IV Drip completes the hospital look and gives the customers a chance to walk around holding their wine IV drips. Heart Attack Grill hooks up their diners with a bag of wine, enough to knock out an average-sized human.
Besides the IV drip wine, Heart Attack Grill also offers Mexican-bottled Coca-Cola and beer. They also sell cigarettes to smokers in the restaurant.
The restaurant only accepts cash, stating that “you may die before the check clears.”
Guinness Book Record Holder
In 2013, Quadruple Bypass Burger was the most calorific burger on the Heart Attack Grill menu. In fact, the Guinness Book of World Records awarded it “The World’s Most Calorific Burger” given the 9,982 calories.
The burger that won this record had 4 and a half pounds of hamburger. 20 slices of bacon, 3 tablespoons of lard, 20 slices of caramelized onion (baked in lard), 8 slices of cheese, 8 slices of tomato, two tablespoons of ketchup, a tablespoon of mustard, and a tablespoon of mayonnaise.
The Downside of Eating at Heart Attack Grill
You’re likely to die of a heart attack, which happened to some customers while dining at Heart Attack Grill.
Blake River was a 575lb man, aged 29, who died from the complications of pneumonia in 2011. He was a spokesperson for Heart Attack Grill while the restaurant was located in Arizona.
John Alleman was the spokesperson in 2013 for the Las Vegas location. He’d visit the restaurant every day and eat unhealthy meals until he passed away in 2013 while leaving the restaurant. He weighed around 190lbs.
John’s body was cremated, and his ashes remain on display in the Heart Attack Grill restaurant to show respect for their devoted patron.
Some diners have left the restaurant in ambulances following medical complications. In February 2012, in between the deaths of Heart Attack Grill’s spokesmen, a customer had a massive heart attack in the restaurant. Within a few months, an unconscious customer was carried out on a stretcher after he supposedly ate a burger, smoked a cigarette, and drank a margarita at the same time.
Despite the horrific incidents associated with the Heart Attack Grill restaurant, the owner remains unapologetic and curious customers continue to visit.
