A soda with a marble from Japan? Yes! Ramune Soda, is a very popular Japanese Soda that is also known as “marble soda.” It is a carbonated soft drink that is very popular in Japan and has been catching on in the USA in recent years. The name ‘Ramune’ is Japanese for the English term ‘Lemonade.’
The original flavor of Ramune Soda has always been the lemon-lime flavor. And many flavors have been introduced over time. It is a sweet soda and if you like sweet drinks you will like it.
Plus, this soda is known for its unique bottle, which is shrunk inside near the neck. Ramune has a very distinctive look with a Codd-neck bottle that is extremely rare. And the way you open it is very different from other sodas. It involves using the included plunger to push the marble down the Codd neck – this starts a fizzing process – and then you can drink the soda.
Ramune Soda is the summer beverage of choice for the majority of Japan’s population. The bottles are also considered eco-friendly since they may be reused. And it makes for a fun and unique gift too!

What Is the Origin of Ramune Soda?
Ramune Soda was invented back in the 19th century. In 1884, it was first introduced in Kobe by a Scottish pharmacist named Alexander Cameron Sim. He displayed his invention to the foreign settlement in Kobe.
Soon after, it became famous among the Japanese as it was known for its medicinal use to prevent Cholera. However, there is no medical evidence this claim is true. But it gives you a sense of the cultural stories around the soda.
It was once known as “Mabu Soda” or “Marble Soda” or even sometimes “marble pop.” This is due to the presence of a marble in the bottle’s neck to seal it. This is an older bottling method to keep drinks carbonated and it stands out now because it is incredibly rare.
Let’s learn more about the bottle in the next section.
What Does The Bottle Look Like?
Ramune Soda has a very unusual Codd Neck which has an indentation in the “neck” of the bottle. The novelty of the drink is that it is sealed with a marble.
When you are ready to enjoy a Ramune, you remove the top plastic wrap and then you use the included plunger to push the marble down. That drops the mark into the top section of the bottle and is prevented from going further down the bottle due to the thin neck design. And it is also prevented from coming out of the top, so it eliminates the risk of choking.
