Starburst Candy Review
Starburst candies are bite-sized, cuboidal, fruit-flavored taffy. They are soft, colorful, and chewy. There are four flavors present in a single package – orange, strawberry, lemon, and cherry.
The UK original flavors contain lemon and lime, black currant, strawberry, and orange. The tropical flavors contain pineapple, strawberry banana, cherry, kiwi, and mango melon.
A single packet of Starburst candies contains 12 chewy pieces. They are very sweet, full of flavor and come in a variety of different flavors. They are a favorite candy with many and one of my favorites when i was a child!
History of Starburst Candy
Starburst Candy was originally known as Opal Fruits. It first came into existence in 1960 in the United Kingdom. Mars curated it. Peter Phillips had named the candy Opal Fruits as a part of a competition that won him a prize.
Opal fruits entered the United States in 1967. It was called M&M’s Fruit Chewies initially. It was rebranded as Starburst in the late 1960s. Originally there were four flavors – orange, strawberry, lemon, and lime. The lime flavor later was replaced by cherry and continues to exist even today.
Mars acquired Wrigley’s in 2008 and transferred the manufacturing and production of Starburst to Wrigley’s.

When you pop the candy in your mouth, you can an initial sour and juicy taste. As you bite into the core, you will feel a gush of sweetness. The candy is very soft and chewy and dissolves completely in your mouth in no time.

The ingredients in Starburst Candy are sugar, corn syrup, hydrogenated palm kernel oil, fruit juice concentrates (cherry, strawberry, apple, lemon, and orange), contains less than 2% of citric acid, gelatin, tapioca dextrin, modified corn starch, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), natural and artificial flavors, and artificial colors (Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 1, Red 40).

Every piece of Starburst Candy contains 20 calories.
Are Starburst Candies Vegan?
Starburst Candy contains gelatin that is extracted from beef. It also contains a red dye, which is made from red beetle’s dried bodies. Therefore, the candies are not vegan.
In the UK, Starburst is vegan and does not contain any artificial flavors or colors.
