Before we tell you about the deliciousness that awaits you on the Whataburger Secret Menu, here is a quick history of the burger chain. They are only in a few states, so we have found out that most people don’t know any of the story.
In the era where automobiles and drive-ins were just getting started, a man named Harold Dobson had a dream. A dream of making a hamburger so big that it required two hands to hold it. Mr. Dobson made that dream a reality in the 1950s by opening the first Whataburger store in Corpus Christie, Texas. It didn’t take Whataburger long to become very popular and a Texas favorite. In the 1960s, there were 17 Whataburger restaurants located in Texas, Tennessee, and Florida. Unfortunately, in 1967, Mr. Dobson was killed in a plane crash. Leaving his wife Grace, who picked up where he left off and kept the Whataburger chain going and her late husband’s legacy alive.
In the 1970s, Whataburger grew to over 200 locations in 12 states. Whataburger also built its first drive-thru window in 1971, making it more convenient for their on the go customers to enjoy their delicious food. In 1980 Whataburger opened its 300th location, expanded the menu, and the hours of operation. By the end of the 1980s, Whataburger had grown to over 400 locations. To this day, you can still find Whataburger locations all over the United States. Whataburger has over 43,000 employees who continue to make Mr. Dobson’s famous burgers fresh when you order.
Whataburger’s regular menu has 9 different burger options, 8 chicken selections, 2 fish sandwiches, kids meals, breakfast items, and a lot more. Their signature 5-inch bun is what makes their sandwiches so popular, significant, and tasty. You will definitely need two hands to hold the burger and a good-sized appetite to eat it. Whataburger Secret Menu – The Triple Triple
As you can imagine, this is an enormous burger. You have your 5-inch bun, 3 5-inch patties, 3 slices of cheese, and any of the extras that you want on your burger. Lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, grilled veggies, mushrooms, or other savory items.
Take your Triple Triple to the next level and have onion rings added? That would mean you would need a superhero sized appetite or someone to share the burger with. You may even need a 3rd hand to hold the burger. Imagine 15 inches worth of burger inside a 5-inch bun!! That is an insane amount of goodness.
Whataburger Secret Menu – Veggie Burger
The Whataburger Veggie Burger is different from veggie burgers at other fast-food establishments. Instead of being loaded with veggies or using a veggie patty, Whataburger adds hash browns sticks to their Veggie Burger. When you order a Veggie Burger, and the employee is not sure how to make it, you can easily explain it. They will accommodate; hash brown sticks, lettuce, tomato, peppers, onions, and mushrooms. You can have whatever you choose on your veggie burger, with or without the hash browns sticks.
Whataburger Secret Menu – The Hulk
We will step away from the kitchen for just a moment and introduce a secret menu drink from Whataburger. You can make this energizing concoction at the fountain machine or order it at the counter. This monster drink is made with 1/4 cup of Powerade, and then you fill the rest of the cup with Vault soda. You will only be able to order this secret menu item exclusively at Whataburger because no other establishment carries both Vault and Powerade in their fountain machines.
Whataburger Secret Menu – Grilled Cheese
If you need a Whataburger “snack,” then their delicious gooey Grilled Cheese is spot on. Of course, it is super easy to make and easy on the pocketbook as well. Two slices of Texas toast (toasted) and 2 or more pieces of cheese (depending on how ooey, gooey you want it).

You can not ask for anything more delicious than a hot, gooey Grilled Cheese from Whataburger. You can even add veggies if it what you are cravings.
Whatever Secret Menu – Chicken and Pancakes
Most people have heard of the trendy chicken and waffles, but what about chicken and pancakes. This secret menu item from Whataburger uses pancakes because they are a regular menu option. If you want to enjoy chicken, pancakes, and hot syrup, you will have to order it between 11 P.M. and 11 A.M. These are the ‘breakfast’ hours at Whataburger.

When ordering the chicken and pancakes, you will have to order the pancakes a la carte and the Whatachick’n strips (#13) without the Texas Toast. Or you can order the Honey Butter Chicken Sandwich with no honey butter and enjoy the warm tasty biscuit after the pancakes and chicken. Whichever way you choose, it will fill you up and allow you to continue through your day.
Whataburger Secret Menu – Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich
Before you try ordering this juicy, filling secret menu item, you will need to make sure that your local Whataburger has BBQ sauce on hand. It is not an item that they keep in stock consistently. If you are lucky enough to order this delectable sandwich, then all you need to do is order the Honey Butter Chicken Strip Sandwich, minus the honey butter, and add loads of BBQ sauce.

Or you can request a 3 piece chicken strip and ask them to put it on Texas toast with BBQ sauce. Enjoy the crispy, crunchy, and juicy chicken strips smothered in BBQ sauce on thick Texas toast. You can add cheese if that is your preference but don’t forget the napkins.
Whataburger Secret Menu – Apple Pie Shake
How about combining two of American’s favorite desserts into 1 cup? Apple pie and vanilla ice cream! Whataburger has shakes and malts available on their regular menu, but let’s add more flavor. When you walk into your local Whataburger, you ask for a vanilla shake and have them blend in a warm apple pie. Whataburger secret menu item Apple Pie Shake. Deliciousness in a cup on a nice warm summer day. 2 desserts in one sounds perfect to me!

Whataburger Secret Menu – Honey Butter Chicken Strip Chicken
Since Whataburger doesn’t always have BBQ sauce on hand, why not try a different chicken sandwich? This is the perfect alternative, and some say it is even better than their BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich. To receive this amazing sandwich, you can order the Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit and replace the biscuit with Texas toast. You will also need to add an order of chicken strips because the biscuit only comes with 1 chicken strip. An easier way to order the Honey Butter Chicken Strip Chicken is to order the number #13, Whatachick’n Strips. Ask for an extra piece of Texas toast and have it all put together and have it smothered with their amazing Honey Butter sauce.
Whataburger Secret Menu – Grilled Cheese Burger
For those of you with extra-large appetites, who can never have enough cheese on your food, I have found the ultimate solution for you. We discussed the Grilled Cheese sandwich earlier. What about adding a beef patty or 3 to your Grilled Cheese. Except, instead of putting the burger in the grilled cheese, you use the grilled cheese as the bun? You will need to do some self-assembly with this secret menu item, but it is definitely worth it. Order the Whataburger of your choice; single, double, or triple. Then add two grilled cheese sandwiches. When you get your food, you take the 5-inch buns and set them off to the side, and you use the grilled cheese sandwiches as the buns of your Grilled Cheese Burger. Talk about extreme cheesy awesomeness!

There is an abundance of delicious choices on the Whataburger regular menu. You can choose a 5-inch bun, a 4-inch Brioche bun, a small bun, Texas toast, or no bun. American cheese, Monterey Jack, Smoked cheddar, and American Swiss are just a few cheese options. You also have bacon, grilled or fire-roasted veggies, and avocados.
