Last Updated on October 28, 2022 by Jim Edwards

Boo Berry Cereal is one of the multiple types of cereal that General Mills released as part of their Halloween spooky series. Although many children prefer Count Chocula from their childhood days the most, the flavor of blueberry and sweet marshmallows is also quite popular among old and new fans.

Boo Berry cereal was released to the public in 1973 after it had been two years since the initial launch of Count Chocula and Franken Berry Cereal. This General Mills cereal  is shaped similar to a Pacman kind of ghost and is made from corn.

The best part about this cereal is that it contains delicious blueberry-flavored marshmallows. These marshmallows are small bites of the spooky blue and purple cereal, making for a bright and inviting colorful bowl of cereal.

The light-colored marshmallow shapes look beautiful with the dark blueberry cereal and make for a delicious and fun breakfast.

History of Boo Berry Cereal

Boo Berry Cereal was released to the public in 1972. However, with its rising popularity, the cereal was released and promoted to the entire U.S. population in 1973. It was the third cereal in the product line with the Franken Berry cereal and Count Chocula cereal.

Boo Berry is a blue ghost that is the character for this blueberry cereal. This blue ghost used to have a red bow tie and a red and yellow striped hat to wear. When it first came out, blueberry cereal from General Mills was often compared with Lucky Charms, which was a much more popular cereal choice.

However, Boo Berry cereal from General Mills made its own place in the industry and had a huge fanbase for its fantastic taste and marketing.

General Mills marketed the cereal boxes to younger audiences with TV commercials. It was through watching the fun and spooky TV commercials that children wanted to buy General Mills’ Monsters’ cereals.

Although every main character of the commercial was a monster, they were all afraid of the smallest things such as birds, black cats, children, ghosts, and even themselves. These cowardly monsters won people’s hearts and were even featured on paint sets, glow-in-the-dark stickers, coloring poster kits, and more merchandise.

What Does Boo Berry Cereal Taste Like?

The Boo Berry Cereal tastes like blueberry and super sweet marshmallows. The marshmallows of the cereal are sometimes known as spooky fun marshmallows. The Boo Berry Cereal, similarly to Franken Berry and Count Chocula cereals, is only sold during the fall time of the year when it is around Halloween. They are a limited-time cereal every year with regularly updated packaging.

Many people believe that the best way to enjoy this cereal is to eat it dry. It has a nostalgic flavor for young adults, which is bound to remind them of their favorite Halloween memories.

Boo Berry Cereal is an artificial berry cereal that is mixed with multiple grains for a nutritious and delightfully sweet breakfast. The best thing about the flavor of the Boo Berry cereal is that it isn’t overpoweringly sweet and is still similar in taste to its earliest versions.

When you enjoy the Boo Berry Cereal in milk, it is when the crunchy sweet cereal begins to show off its real potential. The hardened yet aerated marshmallow begins to soak up the milk and begin to soften. It flavors the milk slightly, giving the other darker pieces of the cereal more flavor as well.

Many people have noticed that the Boo Berry Cereal pieces taste much fresher and tastier than other cereals in a supermarket. This may be because these cereals are only available for a select few months and are produced using much fresher ingredients.

Although the blueberry flavor isn’t as strong in this cereal as the chocolate flavor is in the Count Chocula cereal, it still adds a fun element to your breakfast as you munch on its spooky crunchy taste.
